Hello there,

I have had the privilege of joining the Today.com web site and writing about one of the causes close to my heart - ending domestic violence. I am lucky to note that I have not been in an abusive relationship but I do know people who have been there and whose children have undergone the stress and uncertainty of being in an unhealthy family situation.

Like I’ve said in my about page, domestic violence can happen to just about anyone, your mom, your sister, your friend … yourself. There is a growing trend too of abuse happening to girls who are just entering their dating years.

There is a difference between verbal arguments that sometimes happen to couples, married or otherwise, and a pattern of controlling behavior on the part of one person towards another. Abuse is a cycle of up and down, one minute your partner is all loving and the next day he verbally insults you and nonchalantly demeans you in front of other people.

Men are not immune to this unfortunate issue. In fact, it is more difficult for men to admit that they are physically or emotionally battered by their spouses simply because … well, they’re men. Social stereotypes dictate that it’s just not possible. Guess what, it is.

Hopefully, you will find value in my succeeding posts and help spread the word about this menace. Our voices count. Let it be heard.
